Railway Forum 2005 sets the future for the national railway infrastructure

On 2nd and 3rd June 2005, the Union of European Railway Engineer Associations (UEEIV), based in Frankfurt, the Scientific and Technical Transport Union in Bulgaria and the National Society of Track Engineers organised in Plovdiv this year’s edition of the Railway Forum.

The forum took place with the support of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the National Railway infrastructure Company (NRIC), BDZ EAD, the Federation of Scientific and Technical Unions in Bulgaria and the Plovdiv municipality under the patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications, Nikolay Vasilev.

Among the participants were members of UEEIV Presidium and Managing Board, representatives of leading European railway and industrial companies, interested in the development of the Bulgarian railway infrastructure, Bulgarian enterprises, managers and experts, engineers and technicians, scientists, lecturers and students from high schools and organisations for scientific research - a total of over 200 people. The main objective of the forum was to present the priority projects for railway infrastructure development in Bulgaria, as well as to confirm the investors’ interest in their implementation.

Reiner Wenty, manager for marketing & sales of Plasser & Theurer said, that after our EU - accession, the funds for Railway Infrastructure will be tripled. The following major reports were delivered the Railway Forum 2005:

Objectives and Requirements to the Euro-integration of Railway Transport, by Georgi Nikolov, Executive Director of EA ‘Railway Administration’ within MTC;

Current Condition and Programme for Further Construction of Railway Infrastructure along Pan-European Corridors, by Josef Windsinger, Consultant of UEEIV presidency;

Priorities for Further Construction of Railway Infrastructure in Bulgaria, by Dimitar Gaidarov, Director General of NRIC.
